This ebonized saya is not made from solid ebony wood.
Instead, it is crafted from another wood species and finished through an ebonizing process, which darkens the wood to achieve an ebony-like black tone.
A common example of ebonizing is when an iron-based solution reacts with the natural tannins in wood, causing the material to turn much darker than its original color. This iron–tannin reaction is widely used in woodworking to create a deep black or blue-black appearance.
Through this surface finishing process, the natural wood is transformed into a refined black-tone saya while retaining the character of the original material.
